Kaelen Culpepper’s rise from a Memphis-area baseball player to a first-round Minnesota Twins selection has been shaped by far more than natural talent. His Father

Those sessions sometimes meant leaving home around 10 p.m. on a school night and driving roughly 45 minutes to an indoor baseball facility in Arkansas. The boys would work on hitting and fielding until midnight or even 1 a.m. before making the trip home.
Kaelen has recalled those exhausting nights with a mixture of humor and appreciation. His mother was understandably less enthusiastic about the schedule when her children still had school the next morning.
His Mother
Tiffanie Culpepper provided a different kind of support.
While Ken pushed the baseball side of Kaelen’s development, Tiffanie helped keep the family’s priorities balanced, particularly when the boys’ training schedules became intense.
Kaelen has joked about his mother’s frustration with the late-night trips to Arkansas. Her concern was simple: the boys still needed to wake up for school the following morning.
That balance between athletics and education became an important part of Kaelen’s upbringing.
Memphis Roots
Culpepper grew up in the Memphis area, where baseball became increasingly important as he got older.
His path was not that of a player who received overwhelming national attention from the beginning. According to the Star Tribune, Ken believed Kaelen was overlooked partly because the family could not always afford the elite summer showcase tournaments that helped other prospects attract college recruiters and scouts.
Instead, Kaelen continued developing through hard work and eventually earned his opportunity at Kansas State.
Brother Tyler
Kaelen’s older brother, Tyler, was another important figure in his baseball development.
The brothers played on travel teams together, with Kaelen often competing against older players. Their father used those opportunities to challenge both boys and increase the intensity of their training.
The family workouts were therefore not simply individual lessons for Kaelen. They were part of a broader family commitment to baseball.
The Draft Night
The years of work became tangible on July 14, 2024, when the Minnesota Twins selected Kaelen with the 21st overall pick.
Ken and Tiffanie were beside their son when his name was called.
Kaelen became the second Kansas State player selected in the first round since 1972. During his final college season, he hit .328 with 11 home runs, 15 doubles and 59 RBIs in 61 games.
The emotional significance of the moment was not lost on him. After years of late-night practices and uncertainty about whether professional baseball was attainable, his family was there when the opportunity finally arrived.
The Professional Climb
Culpepper began his professional career with the Twins organization in 2024.
He made his pro debut with Fort Myers and quickly showed why Minnesota had invested a first-round selection in him. In nine games with the Mighty Mussels, he hit .297 with a .907 OPS before moving up the organization.
His progress continued through the minor leagues.
By 2026, Culpepper had reached Triple-A St. Paul and emerged as one of the Twins’ most highly regarded prospects. MLB listed him as Minnesota’s No. 2 prospect, while his offensive production made him increasingly difficult for the organization to overlook.
A Breakout 2026
The 2026 season represented another major step.
Before reaching the majors, Culpepper was selected for his second consecutive MLB All-Star Futures Game. At the time of the selection, he was hitting .272 with 14 home runs, 43 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 63 games for St. Paul.
His power also became increasingly noticeable.
MLB documented multiple home runs during his hot stretches in Triple-A, including a two-homer performance and several leadoff shots. His production helped reinforce his status as one of the organization’s most promising young position players.
